If you have never fought a billfish before, this is your opportunity. It is an experience of a lifetime. For seasoned anglers this is the place to get your first billfish on bait-and-switch, or on the fly if you are up for it. Santiago Valdovinos is an expert billfish, bait-and-switch, and fly fishing captain, rated Mexico’s #1 catch-and release captain for the last eight years. First-rate gear is provided. Zihuatanejo is also the best place in the world to catch a blue marlin on the fly (in season.) Sailfish is prolific.

36 holes in Ixtapa

There is every possibility to play some great golf. Two very different courses are located in Ixtapa, only 15 minutes away from the hotel. The Campa De Golf Palma Real is a classic Robert Trent Jones II creation, cut straight through the dense jungle palms. It gets the rating “player friendly.” The Club the Marina Ixtapa is a Robert Von Hagge design, with the requisite salt water canals, undulating terrain, and lots of moguls. There is water on 14 of 18 holes—
not so “player friendly.” Make sure you have some extra balls in the bag.

Snorkeling/Scuba diving

The waters around Zihuatanejo Bay offer some truly great snorkeling and scuba diving. We will book snorkeling and scuba outings for you with the best PADI-certified guides and instructors available. Please ask the receptionist our email us before your arrival. We will arrange everything, down to a sumptuous box lunch from our own kitchen.

Shopping for Taxco silver, Guerrero folk art

Zihuatanejo Centro has a great selection of Taxco silver artifacts and Guerrero folk art. Especially the decorative and ritual masks are great items.

Great food, Yoga and Massage at Paty’s, La Ropa Beach

Right down the street you will find Paty’s Mar Y Mar. In addition to the restaurant there are also yoga classes and massages. Both get high ratings and are very reasonable.

El Refugio De Potosi Wildlife Education Center

A fantastic place to take the kids, or for you to get up close with the local and native animal species. See everything from arachnids and insects to butterflies, birds (lots of great hummingbirds), iguanas and other reptiles. This is the place to admire and learn about the biodiversity of the Guerrero Coast.

San Valentin Eco Reserve

A half-hour drive south takes you to vast mangrove lagoons full of birds and white lilies. A skiff takes you across to the other side where, to your pleasant surprise, you disembark on an infinitely long isolated soft-sand beach. Fishermen serve their fresh catch of the day for lunch. San Valentín also houses the turtle protection camp. Government ecologists protect the turtles, and annually up to 200,000 baby turtles are set free with a head start to survive in the sea. Females return years later to nest on this same beach.
